Jaipur, Rajasthan (bhag ek)

Saprem Namaskar Dearest Friends,

This here is a blog (renewed from the detritus of times past) to log my summer in India. So far, the torrid heat has rendered my days way too sluggish to be productive beyond studying Hindi in my room. Nonetheless, the monsoon should pick up steam by next week. Jaipur is a friendly city (with more amenities than I imagined). I live next to a wonderful park (named after Sayed Bhagat Singh, out of all people) and I have been making trips around my sector of the city to sample the best chai and chaat. In the coming weeks, I'm going to take a class or two on how to spin Khaddi, if only for reasons of reciprocity.

Health is super, the camels do not smell 'that' bad and I can now play cricket with a modicum of sophistication.

I have a newly discovered love of sweets -- considering how much I despised them in the past (especially the jalebis in Bihar).

More soon. I promise.

Pyar,
Sean

grits

Toni Cardoni,

It's never fashionable to sleep a Saturday evening away. You wake up at 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. and discover sad and sobering truisms. I would not recommend this, primarily because Sundays are far more disturbing when you are not hungover. The ritual day of healing becomes a grizzly day of moping.

Aside from that, I assume you would be glad to hear about Mr. Obama. What an amazing character, eh? This cat makes my spine tingle. When he spoke at my alma mater and I proudly wore his Senate campaign button on my mortar board, I knew that this guy had soul power. And really, that's all we need in a president. Policy experience? Two years in the Senate freed the slaves. (Aware that I am employing a poor and renascent cliche when comparing Obama to Lincoln). Nonetheless, soul is all it is. That's all we really need. Some good old "I was the man. I suffer'd. I was there."

And I think John McLaughlin agrees.

Warmest Regards,
seanmike

Forty Million Daggers

Toni Cardoni,

Generally, I avoid this kind of thing with an emphatic distaste. But, I will now make an exception. After abandoning a rigorous routine of daily writing and forcing myself to watch The Devil & Daniel Johnston, I feel a heavy motivation to begin archiving. So consider this a nascent archive. The idea is to grow and maintain a garden of bad ideas (sort of like your oversized Italian bell peppers). I will tend to avoid rambling about anything overtly ideological, personal or anything that comes close to pop criticism.

Considering my obsession with lies & half-truths -- I am leaving soon to watch the Bears play in what some people believe to be the most important event of the year. I could really care less. But there is free food involved and I'll probably riot and cheer and boo and jeer like everybody else. At least doing SOMETHING, even if terribly dissatisfying, is better than wanking about an even more unsatisfyingly empty apartment.

We'll reconvene on this topic when radio baseball begins.

Warmest Regards,
seanmike
